About

Mary Ruth Pruitt is an educator and illustrator currently working in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  Born in Tuscaloosa, she was brought up with a deep love of story-telling and developed a passion for bringing narratives to life through her art.

She graduated from Emory & Henry College with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and English Literature in 2014. Three years later, Mary Ruth achieved her Master of Fine Arts in Illustration from Memphis College of Art. She taught Illustration, Comics, and writing intensive classes for the Memphis College of Art from 2017 through the summer of 2019.

Published in Spring of 2018, Bennie Goes Up! Up! Up! is her first children's book, representing a year of work and a lifetime of dreams. While working as an English teacher for Tuscaloosa Academy, Pruitt continues to write and illustrate her autobiographical comics, The Memphis Adventure Zines, and her new web-series Tales of the Lengthy Gods.
